They Don’t Plan Ahead – Your host country may have a booming film industry, but if your dream is to return to your own country then you should start working on forming industry relationships now.  How? Do video auditions for showcases, films and television, build an IMDb page and learn how to use it effectively, set up general meetings with talent agents when you go home for vacation and research the entertainment industry in your country.

They’re Apprehensive To The Business Of Acting – The business of acting is complex to include, but not limited to; networking, emails, snail mail, design of websites, finding a director, film festivals, marketing etc. The to-do list can seem insurmountable, but remember Rome wasn’t built in a day. I recommend Paul Russel’s “Acting: Make It Your Business,” it’s a phenomenal book. 

They Don’t See Through The Glass Ceiling – Stop looking at the glass ceiling as a limitation and start looking at it as a liberation. That ceiling represents all the obstacles that you CAN overcome, all the people that tell you it can’t be done, and all the dreams you can make a reality.  The glass ceiling isn’t a roof.  It works more like the surface of water when you’re swimming to the top to get air.  Breakthrough and breathe expat actor!
