Being Cast Minded As An Expat Thespian

Being cast by casting directors is the acuda gra!  However, solely depending on your acting ability to get a role is a thing of the past. We as expat actor must be forward thinking and strategic.  Today's post...

Being Cast Strategic As An Expat Thespian

Push For Different Roles - Most of the time, as an expat actor, we have to take the "foreigner" roles that are given but that doesn't mean we have to accept the status quo.  One strategy; sit down with your agent and have a sincere heart-to-heart on the type of roles you want.  Listen to what your agent has to say and apply what you think is best. You never know what the issue may be on why it's difficult to get different roles but your agent, if they're worth their salt, should have their to the industry ground. Categorize Your Acting Clips - Drama should be with drama, comedy with comedy and so forth.  You clips/demo reels should be set up that if a casting agent is interested in you for a certain type you can send them the footage of what they need with ease.   Don't make them search for anything.  Put everything at their fingertips. Confession: I'm still working on this part.

Prep Your Electronic Press Kit -  Everything you're doing overseas needs to be in put in a concise, informative, easy to read electronic press kit.  An EPK is your professional acting resume containing the highlights of your career.  The headshot with the resume on the back is cool, but the electronic press kit brings everything to life---presentation style! You're in your host country to gain opportunity, don't let that affect you by being unprepared for your native country...Expat Thespian!
