3 Tips For A Smooth Transition Home As An International Actor

So it's about that time.  You've been acting overseas for years and now you have to say goodbye.  But before you leave you should make sure a few things are set so you can hit the ground running on your next venture. Today's post?

3 Tips For A Smooth Transition Home As An International Actor

Start 6 Months Early - This is very important. Don't wait until 2 months before your flight to start mailing things home. You've collected a lot of "stuff" over the years and you may not realize how much. In addition, postage cost money especially for those things you don't want to sell. So, I recommend that every month, from 6 months out, you start mailing one box to your next location. It's way easier on your pocket.

Gather Your Footage - If you haven't been doing this before then this part can get tricky.  As an international actor you're not always provided a copy of your film or scenes. Therefore, any footage that you've done overseas needs to be located, put in the cloud or on an external hard drive, and kept safe for your demo reel. So, call your agents for a copy, buy the video at a local store or online, or as a last resort download the torrent file. Hook or by crook...get that footage!

Research Your New Market - No matter where you may be going start doing research ahead of time. Things you should know before you arrive are:

*Talent & management agencies that represent actors of your type.

*How different is your new market from your old? (For example, you may be a film actor overseas but you're going to an area where theater is much stronger.)

*How strong is the film commission in your area and what avenues do they have that you can utilize for your career?

*Acting coaches & classes that are held in high regard.

Once you start researching this information, more ideas and strategies will follow. Being prepared for your opportunity starts by taking the opportunity to prepare.

Leaving your host country can be scary, exciting and filled with a plethora of other emotions.  However, at the end of the day you don't want your career to tank because you didn't think ahead...International Actor!

I hope you enjoyed these tactics for actors working internationally. Do you agree? Please reply in the comments below with your thoughts or questions on acting overseas.

With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or
copyright infringement? My website has a lot of unique content I've either created myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it
is popping it up all over the internet without my agreement.
Do you know any solutions to help reduce content from being ripped off?
I'd definitely appreciate it.
