3 Reasons To Assist Expat Thespians As An Expat Thespian

Expat thespians are everywhere these days! The trend is growing because people are choosing the road less traveled. However, one of the most fullfiling aspects of being an expat actor is helping other expat actors.  Today's post?

3 Reasons To Assist Expat Thespians As An Expat Thespian

It Creates Opportunity - Entertainment professionals are still paving the way for opportunities in casting for foreigners. Though it seems better to not lend a helping hand, one way to increase the number of foreign roles is to increase the number of well developed, professional, and business savvy expat actors. How? We do this by giving a blunt & honest critique of each others performances, recommending great books to read, traveling to train in our craft, and sharing online training opportunities. We should earn our own opportunities first, then other opportunities will follow.

It Creates Competition - I've found that I do the best when my fellow expat-actor-friends are doing their best. If they're creating content I start thinking of ways to create.  If there pushing themselves with doing stand up, writing a script, or producing a movie I begin to evaluate my career as an actor.  Notice, I didn't say compare. Comparing breeds doubt but evaluation breeds strategy.  Breathe in the healthy competition and evaluate what you can do next for your overseas acting career.

It Proves Dedication - When you dedicate your time to assisting other actors your career begins to blossom as a direct result. Dedication to actors in the growth of the craft or business of acting translates to your dedication of show business on an intimate level. You can't truly be an industry leader without knowing your industry. We are all always learning but their is always someone who can benefit from your effort.  Pay it forward, someone took the time to help you.

It'll be more fun at the top if your friends are with you!  There's enough hateful competition in this industry, let's change the paradigm...Expat Thespian!

I hope you enjoyed these tactics for actors working in a foreign country. Do you agree? Please reply in the comments below with your thoughts or questions on expat acting.
